Ladies and Gentlemen, we are back for senior year and in
better shape than ever before. I still have no idea what I want to do with my
life after ONU—not because it’s hard to imagine a time without this school, but
none of us can see the future. I have to get to the bridge before I find a way
to cross it and taking baby steps doesn’t mean I can’t have long term goals. I
figure since life doesn’t have a plan, I should focus more on the things I can
control and catch opportunities as I go.
Here’s a good example. I took a job at a country club this
summer and quickly learned working with wealth is a double-edged sword. Plenty
of great people can through and I genuinely enjoyed sharing time with them. You
get to know the members as they come back each week which make the good ones
better and the bad: a nuisance. I can’t decide who walks through the door, but
I can serve everyone warmly and with respect.
I serve one couple regularly and we always have a blast
together. On my last night, I get a business card from the woman who goes on to
explain her job at the state treasury. Accepting things as they come and
adapting is how we grow as people and I appreciated how a mindset shaped a
relationship. So for this semester, I think I’ll take a similar approach. Just
remember: Take baby steps, look up every once in a while, and respect gets
respect. I’ll see you next week Aggie, et al.
